I learned that there are five unifying principles that can be said to be the fundamental axioms of modern biology. The second one of these , namely Evolution, is widely accepted as driven by Natural Selection. This in itself is to do with the adoption of the lifeform to it's environment.
In the 'Scientific World', evolution has long been accepted as fact. Recently even the Catholic Church seems to be less dogmatic/fundamentalistic in it's understanding and not so long ago Pope Francis has stated:
“The big bang, which is today posited as the origin of the world, does not contradict the divine act of creation; rather, it requires it” and: “Evolution of nature is not inconsistent with the notion of creation because evolution presupposes the creation of beings which evolve.”
